“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”

Matthew 9:36

Everywhere I look around me today
I see people in despair,
Living lives with fear and hopelessness
And burdened down with cares.

I see the terror in their eyes,
I hear those words of fear:
Wars and floods, storms and such
That moves their hearts to tears.

It’s in those times that my heart does ache
As I watch and hear their mournful cries,
That I lift my heart to Heaven, crying
“Oh, Father, give me ‘Jesus-Eyes’.

“Eyes that look beyond their plight
And just their physical needs;
Eyes that peer into their souls
And ears that hear their desperate pleas.

“Pleas for peace in the midst of strife,
Pleas for someone to care;
Help me, Lord Jesus, to extend a hand
And let them know that You are there.

“Help me, like You, to look beyond
Their faults and words and deeds,
To see they need Someone like you,
Who is truly a Friend indeed.

“Give me, O Lord, a heart of Love,
That’s moved with compassion so deep—
For only then will I truly know Who You are
And how to weep with those who weep.

“Yes, give me ‘Jesus-Eyes,’ O Lord,
That sees others the way You do;
That way my heart will be moved like Yours
To help others be able to see You, too.”
