“And the angel said unto him, ‘Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” Luke 2:10
How quiet was the town that night
As the folks in Bethlehem did lay…
Asleep so soundly upon their beds
While the animals ate their hay.
Their eyes were closed and they did not see…
Their ears, so unhearing;
They did not see the angel band
Or hear them as they were singing.
They did not hear the angel say
“Fear not…for I’ve got Good News for you.”
They did not kneel in wondrous awe
As the angels did sing before they were through.
The angels said that God the Father, way up on high,
Was sending to them great cheer;
He was giving to man His only Son,
Who’d wipe away all of their tears.
How wonderful was this message of hope,
As the shepherds knelt in awe;
Their hearts did leap within them
At this greatest sight they ever saw.
No little joy was this great gift…
No dismal message of woe;
To everyone upon the earth
Was this Gift that God would bestow.
Oh how we need to hear this cry
In this day-and-age of despair;
How we need to know that there is Someone
Upon Whom we can cast our cares.
Thank God that Jesus is the Gift
Which was given so long ago;
Thank Him as well that the message is still true…
That He gives great joy and truly loves us so.
