“Being confident of this very thing, that He Who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Sometime I feel discouraged

When I look at my own life,

Too ‘oft it’s filled with sorrow,

Great troubles, toil and strife.

It seems the harder that I try

To do what the Lord says do,

That I “grow weary in well-doing”

And fail to see things through.

It’s in those times of heaviness

When everything has gone wrong,

That I need a fresh touch from the Spirit

To renew my joy and song.

How wonderful is the promise

Found in God’s Word so dear,

That the Lord’s not finished His working

In the “now” and in the “here.”

Instead, He’s continuing to perfect me

Into the image of His dear Son,

So that when my life is over

I’ll be victorious in the race that’s run.

Perhaps we’d all do better

In our journey on this ol’ earth

To remember we’re still “under construction”

While the Savior gives us great worth.

Without His grace and mercy

We’re as wretched as can be,

But when our Lord starts working—

Why, it’s a marvelous thing to see!

He takes a heap of “nothin’”

And performs a work of grace—

Transforming us into fit vessels

Until we see Jesus face-to-face.
