“Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me, lest I be full and deny You and say ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or lest I be poor, and steal and take the name of my God in vain.” Proverbs 30: 8-9
How easy it is to ask for “things”
As we live our lives each day;
To want the “best” and yearn for more
When the “new” and “fancy” comes our way.
We want more money; we want more things
For ourselves, our family and our life;
Somehow we think that we’ll be happy then,
For they’ll put an end to hardships and strife.
But, soon we find that this is not true,
For “things” can never fill…
That emptiness within the heart of man,
No not “things” or places or “cheap thrills”.
Only our Lord and His amazing love
Can fill that void inside;
Only His grace can give us peace
When we’re tempted to run and hide.
That’s why we should pray this prayer
That is filled with wisdom from above,
For it shows us how we ought to live and think
And rest daily in the Father’s love.
We should not ask for riches…
For they tempt us to ignore;
And, we should not ask for poverty,
For that makes us to always want “more”.
Instead we should pray this Prayer of Wisdom
That is the “Prayer of Content”,
Because it reminds us that all is well
When we need only the One that God has sent.
So, let us pray this Prayer today
And, ask the Lord to remind us too
That Jesus is our All in all,
And is our most Precious Treasure in all we do.
