“For unto you is born this day in the City of David, a Savior, Which is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11
His coming had long ago been foretold
By the prophets through years gone by;
Folks’ hopes in His coming had so greatly waned
As they looked for this Anointed One from on high.
Their lives were filled with hardships
And oppression on every hand;
They were simply going through the motions
As continual violence filled their land.
But into that world of heartache and sorrow
The angel Gabriel suddenly appeared;
He said, “Mary, God is about to do something wonderful
As He banishes men’s fears and tears.
“Quite soon you’ll feel the stirring
Of God’s Christ-Child deep within;
He’ll be the Savior for all who’ll believe
As He cleanses them from all their sins.”
For nine long months she waited
As the Child within her grew;
She had no way of knowing what was still yet to be
When her pregnancy and delivery were through.
She didn’t know they’d have to travel
To Bethlehem before the Baby would arrive;
Yet, in simple, sweet surrender
She knew the Lord would keep her from on High.
As the Baby was born into the world
And the angels and shepherds drew nigh,
They knew that Jesus was the Savior of the world
Who’d been sent to them from the Lord God on High.
From then until now the Message is the same
As we celebrate the Christ-Child’s birth:
He is the Savior of the world
Who came to bring us God’s own eternal worth.
