“For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.”

Psalm 74:12

When we know Who He is, we’ll always know what He has done.

“Who is your God?”

That’s the question pompous Pharaoh asked Moses that day when he returned and told the Egyptian king “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Let My People          go. . .’” (Ex. 5:1-2).  The Egyptians believed in many Gods (e.g., a sun god, moon god, tree god, etc.) and the supreme god was Pharaoh himself.

Thus, his question arose from his theology—albeit a self-centered one.  And, his continuing remarks (“that I should obey His Voice to let Israel go?  I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go”) reveal the obstinate ignorance that so often arises when one doesn’t know Who God is.

But, later on he’d come to realize Who the God of Israel was—and it’s be too little, too late.

In reality, the same is true for us, especially in this day-and-age of relativism, secularism, humanism, syncretism, modernism, etc.  We, who are followers of the Risen Lord, must be able to stand boldly upon the Word of God and say “Thus says the Lord” when others are saying “There is no God.”

Likewise, unashamedly, we should say “My God is the King of old and He’s never changed through the years.  From the time Adam and Eve sinned. . .and He exchanged their self-made fig-leaf aprons for “coats of skin” from the first blood sacrifice (Gen. 3:7, 21), which showed the importance of “the shedding of blood” (Heb. 9:22). . .the one true and living God has been ‘working salvation in the midst of the earth’.”

Even though modern-day “enlightened ones” denounce “antiquated” things like sin, repentance, holiness, etc., the “King of old” still has much to say about them.  Even though views and values change through the years, His Word never changes (Is. 40:8).  And, it’s only when we come under the authority of God’s Word that we’ll come under the Lordship of Christ.

Dear Pilgrim, the Gospel Message has never changed.

We’re all sinners who fall short of the Glory of God (Rom. 3:23).  The “wages of sin” is still death and we can’t save ourselves (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9).  There’s only one way to Heaven and that’s through the Blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Passover Lamb (Jn. 14:6; Rom. 5:6-11).  And, it’s only through faith in Him and repentance that we are born again (Jn. 3:3-8; Lk. 13:3; Rom. 10:9-10, 13; II Pet. 3:9).

Therefore, do not succumb to the devil’s lies and believe that God is too loving to send anyone to hell—for, in reality, He doesn’t send anyone to hell; it’s their unbelief that sends them to hell.  May the Holy Spirit help us to always remember that the God of “yesterday” is also the God of “today and tomorrow” (Heb. 13:8).  Hallelujah!!  And, may we love Him enough to tell others of His unchanging Love that is able to radically change them from the inside out.
