“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, even the night shall be light about me; yea, the darkness hides not from You—but the night shines as the day. The darkness and the light are both alike to You’.”

Psalm 139:11-12

His Eyes are not blind to our thoughts and deeds; neither are His Ears deaf to the words that spring from our lips.
Such knowledge is both convicting and comforting, is it not Pilgrim? When you read the words in today’s Manna, what feelings arise deep within you—knowing that nothing is hidden to God’s all-seeing Eyes?

If we’re striving to live a holy life and walking in Jesus’ footsteps, this knowledge is reassuring—for we know He always knows where we are and what we need in the “dark night of the soul.” However, if our “deeds are evil and we somehow think the darkness hides us from His x-ray Eyes,” we should not be surprised if we feel the condemnation of sin and the curse of the Law (Jn. 3:19-21; Gal. 3:10; Dt. 27:26).

No one needs to tell us why thieves prefer the night rather than the day to do their dastardly deeds; neither do we need instructions as to why individual’s and corporation’s deceitful practices are often referred to as “cover-ups.”

Yet, again, none of these are hidden to Almighty God, Whose Name is also “El Roi” (the All-knowing, All-seeing God).
When God created all that is, He said “Let there be light and there was light” (Gen. 1:3). And, “when He saw the light, He said ‘It is good’” (v.4). Thus, we shouldn’t be surprised that “Life is found in Christ and that Life is the Light of men and the Light shined in darkness and the darkness couldn’t overcome it” (Jn. 1:4-5).

That’s why we should “walk in the Light as He (Jesus) is in/is the Light” (I Jn. 1:7a)—for this is the secret of “fellowship with Christ and others as His Blood cleanses us from all sin” (v.7b). Hallelujah!!

Dear Pilgrim, are you “walking in the Light” or “are your deeds evil” and you’re living a lie—i.e., a life of pretense and deceit? Are you same person in public as you are when you’re home alone and no one’s watching you?

Christ has called us to be “children of light” in a world of darkness (Jn. 12:36; Eph. 5:8; I Thess. 5:5) and to “let our light so shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father Who is in Heaven” (Mt. 5:16). May we be found faithful in this task—for our failure to do so and an accompanying, nonchalant attitude of “That’s okay; I’m saved by Grace” definitely says more about where/how we’re living and God’s reaction than we realize.
